Cancun Hotel Review - CasaMagna Marriott

By Grant's World

This is my review of the CasaMagna Marriott hotel in Cancun Mexico.

When you first drive up to the Casamagna the hotel is large and looks to be a standard 4 star hotel. When you actually walk through the huge wood and glass front doors into the hotel you then get to see how truly massive and incredible this place is. The lobby is very large and impressive and flows perfectly with the rest of the hotel floor. Once inside you get a glimpse of the turquoise waters from the Caribbean ocean on the other side of the hotel. The water color looks just like it does in a vacation brochure.

There is a large lobby bar right across from the front entrance which has a very classy look and feel to it with a baby grand piano sitting right in the middle of the bar. Checking into the hotel was easy. We upgraded to an ocean front room but didn't get a deal on the price, I asked but no go. I didn't really expect a deal on the upgraded room but thought I would try.

We booked our trip through expedia.com for the first time and I was leery of booking this way but now that we had and arrived and gotten to our hotel and were heading to our room it went over without a hitch. I am impressed expedia, thank you .

Checking in at the CasaMagna

When we first checked in Jorge (George) gave us the tour of the building on the way to our room. He was very polite professional and even went and got me a bucket of ice so I could start enjoying my all inclusive stay.

For those of you who don’t know what all inclusive is at a hotel it is a package deal with your hotel room and all food and beverages included, yes alcohol too.

Since we were only staying there for seven days we decided that we would spend most of the days just laying around the ocean and pool just relaxing drinking some margaritas, pina coladas, modelo's,pacifico's,corona's and some rum. Just R & R, sun, some drinks and take a tour. I don't think it would be right to visit Mexico and not take a tour and see one of the Mayan ruins, Chichen Itza was the Mayan ruins we picked to go see and they didn’t disappoint what an incredible place. Chichen Itza is one of the new 7 Wonders of the World.

After seeing Chichen Itza and on the way back to Cancun we got to swim in a sink hole which seemed like it was at least 80' down from the ground. Yes there were stairs leading down to the water. A sink hole in Mexico is a natural formation caused by underground rivers.

Some of the amenities

A bit about the hotel. Casamagna is 6 floors which open up in the inner part of the floors so you can look down to the bottom floor which is actually open to the outside so when the warm Caribbean wind blows you can feel it up on the 6th floor while walking to your room. The hotel has marble everywhere and looks beautiful.

The hotel has a nice sized boutique and combination coffee shop. A fitness centre and wellness centre. There is a large pool in the center court of the hotel which looks out over the turquoise Caribbean ocean. The pool was great.

The hotel has some great restaurants and bars as well like the La Capilla Argentinean steakhouse where I went every morning for breakfast and three times in one week for supper where I enjoyed a delicious filet mignon each visit.

There is also Champions sports bar and lounge which is a typical sports bar with a plethora of TV’s on the wall, the bar food was good, typical bar food. There is also a Thai restaurant called Sasi Thai and is an open air restaurant which has no walls but massive palapas for a roof, very cool. The dish I had there was delicious.

Mikado Japanese restaurant was another fun supper. The chef prepares your dinner on the grill right at your table. The food was great and the preparation was very entertaining.

This is a great book to have if travelling to the Cancun area

My rating for the CasaMagna Marriott in Cancun

There is also the lobby bar which I believe is run by the same people that run the two pool bars and ocean bar. The lobby bar was a great place to have a couple of cocktails at night because they had a live Salsa band every night.

The swim up pool bar was a blast if anything because of all the different people you meet while having a drink there. People were a lot friendlier while having drinks sitting in the pool for some reason. I also tried room service a few times once scheduled it for an early breakfast room service and they were right on time.

Overall the hotel itself was grand and extremely clean. The staff was friendly and as helpful as they could be. Thanks to Jorge, Geronimo, Alejo, Viktor, Maya and Manuel and the rest of the staff. We would definitely stay there again. I give Casamagna a 9.9 out of 10 only because they need something to shoot for no matter how great of a job they do.
