less is more

Less is more when it comes to losing weight and how much you eat. Let’s face it if you eat too much you are going to gain weight or stay heavier than you want to be.

You really don’t have to eat as much as you currently do to survive. The human body is an amazing machine and will adapt to less food, honest. You can eat less food and you won’t even starve, true story.

You will actually start to feel better than you do now, more alert, more energy and just an overall feeling of well being. You don’t have to cut out all your favourite foods either, just eat a smaller amount of them.

I am following this way of eating and losing weight and it works excellent for me.

I am having success losing weight right now while keeping my muscle mass (which is important to me) and I have eaten ice cream, chips and have had a few glasses of beer and wine in the last week.

Oh and I don’t even count calories, how about that? Does it sound hard to believe?

I can understand if you might think that but if you keep reading and hear what I have to say

I think then you will be a believer. Even better if you apply what I am doing and start to lose weight yourself I think you will be coming back here to thank me.

This is a lifestyle change in how you eat. Meaning just because you lose 10 or 20 lbs doesn’t mean you should stop eating this way.

You need to follow this way of eating forever. The best thing about eating like this forever is fine by me because I am still eating and drinking what I want which makes this very easy to keep up.

So here is what I am doing and I recommend you do the same if you want easy success in losing some weight.

Eat 5 or 6 small meals and snacks a day. Spread your meals and calories out over the day.

If you eat too many calories at one meal your body won’t need all of the calories and will store the excess as fat. Eat slowly and only until you are full. Don’t go back for 2nd’s.

Drink a lot of water throughout the day it will help your body dispel fat and toxins and will help your body function properly as we humans are made up of somewhere around 70% water. Water will also help to curb your appetite. You will also have more energy.

Do not eat anything after 7 P.M.

Get more sleep. Go to sleep around the same time every night. Your body will thank you for it. Sleep around 8 hours a night. Some people require more sleep depending on how active they are.

Make healthier food choices most of the time. If you are eating healthy 8 times out of 10 then you can have a burger or pizza once in a while.

Don’t restrict yourself so much that you make it virtually impossible mentally and physically to eat like this. Eat protein carbohydrates and fat with every meal.

Set goals for yourself. If you don’t have a goal then how do you know where you want to go? Decide on how much weight you want to lose or how many waist sizes you want to drop. Give yourself a time frame to do so but be realistic. I would love to lose 15 lbs in one week but it just isn’t healthy and the weight will probably come back right away.

Shoot for a weight loss of 1lb a week. Slow wins the race. You are more likely to keep the weight off if you give yourself this goal. In one year you would lose 52lbs. a year fly’s by so don’t even think that is a long time.

If you slip up one or even two days and end up eating way more than you know you should don’t beat yourself up over it.

Just get back in the saddle and start again. It is ok to slip up. Or stop dieting for a short period of time.

Recently I just took a week off of dieting because of functions and I don’t feel guilty at all. I knew that I would be starting over again once the week was over.

I don’t count calories myself because most week days I eat 70% of the same foods so it is easy for me to control my foods and calories.

Maybe you need to eat a lot more of the same foods too. I eat to fuel myself not to fill myself. If you want you can count calories until you get the hang of it like I do.

Find out what calories your body needs to maintain its current weight and cut that back by 500 calories. In one week you will be in a 3500 deficit which equals 1 pound.

There are many calorie calculators you can find available on the internet and I have some in the Hubs that are at the bottom of this page you can use also.

Take this quick poll to see where you stand among others

How do you like to exercise

  • walking
  • jogging
  • weight lifting
  • aerobics
  • yoga
  • pilates
  • watching tv
  • exercise? hahahahahaha what's that?

Cut out as much alcohol as you can if not all of it. It’s just not good for you and your body converts it too fat right away if it doesn’t need the empty calories for something else.

I cut out 90% of my drinking and that has helped me lose weight in a big way. It is not only the alcohol but usually when you drink you aren’t very selective in the foods you eat so you end up eating high calorie and fatty foods along with the drinks.

Exercise. Even if you don’t like to or want to exercise you need to do something. That something is walking. If you are able to walk then do it.

Walking is a great low impact exercise that gets your heart rate pumping at a good fat burning pace.

The extra calories you burn exercising will help make up for the times you slip up a bit with your diet and to get your metabolism fired up to become a fat burning furnace.

Each time you walk go at least as far as you went the last time and try to beat your previous time and even go further if you can. If you enjoy exercising then make sure you do more than just walking.

Change up the amount of calories you eat every day. Your body is very efficient and will adapt to you taking in smaller amounts of calories by slowing down your metabolism and then you won’t be burning any fat.

Alternate your calorie counts. I usually go 4 or 5 week days with about the same amount of calories and then on the weekend have slightly more calories.

That revs up my metabolism and actually keeps the fat burning going. Just make sure that over any given period of time your total calorie intake is in a deficit compared to total calories required to maintain your body weight.

There you have it. My no nonsense easy to follow way to fat loss. To recap what I just shared with you in as little amount of words as possible.

Make better food choices and eat smaller more frequent meals eating to fuel not to fill.

Eat less calories in a day than you require to maintain your current weight.

Don’t eat after 7P.M.

Exercise.

Cut out alcohol

Drink more water

If you slip up, don’t worry about it. It happens. Just start over.

I hope I have helped and if you have any dieting questions feel free to ask and hopefully I can help you out. Good Luck!

Grant's world, these tips sound like great common sense information, but then again what is common sense?

Thanks for sharing such valuable insights. I am trying to loose about 10-15lbs and I'm not having as much success as I'd like. I've even joined weightwatchers to gain insights. You are right about being aware about what you eat and how much. I believe that portion size is my challenge. The good news is that I'm making better food choices, if only I could cut down the amount I eat. Anyway, all is not lost (pon) I'm loosing between 1/2 to 2lbs most weeks.

Again thanks for sharing. You have just fuelled my weightloss efforts.
