The most common New Year's Resolutions

The beginning of a new year is typically the time most people decide to make some positive changes in their lives. We all have different priorities in life and what we want out of life.

If you follow these tips for success you will indeed succeed with your New Year's resolutions.

The more common resolutions that come up around the world are to quit drinking alcohol, quit smoking cigarettes, quit taking illegal narcotics, lose body weight and fat, eating a healthier diet, start exercising or exercising more.

Advancing in your career and making more money, treating your family and friends better, taking a class, starting a business, getting rid of clutter around your home, organizing your life, making new friends, improving your knowledge about something specific or about everything possible, saving money and spending less money, get out of debt.

Appreciate life and the small things more than you do now, volunteering your time to worthy causes, learning how to relax. As you can see the list can be endless. As you might have noticed most resolutions have something in common.

Deciding on a New Year's Resolution and how to plan to be successful

New Year’s resolutions are usually about self improvement in some form or another and they are mostly something that you want in your life or maybe had at one time but lost track of.

Life is short and you realize that to be true the older you get. Making and keeping New Year’s resolutions are two completely different things.

Making your resolutions can be as simple as just knowing without thinking about what you want to change and improve in your life.

It could be something or things you have wanted to change for quite some time but for some reason just don’t get around to actually committing to it.

Other times a resolution might not be so clear. Your first and most important task is to know exactly what it is you want to set a resolution for. Write it down and be descriptive.

Now that you know exactly what it is that you want your New Year’s resolution to be it is time to figure out how exactly you are going to accomplish your goals.

Again you should start writing it down. When you write things down you are more likely to figure out how to proceed and complete the task.

If you don’t want to write it down then how about writing on a Microsoft word document or Microsoft excel spreadsheet and that way you can save it out of sight and even e-mail it to where ever you want to work on it some more.

As you map out how you are going to get started and carry through and eventually complete and succeed with your resolution make sure you write every little thing down you think might help you get to the finish line and also make notes of every little thing that might prevent you from reaching your goal.

Succeeding with your New Year's Resolution

Start off by writing down exactly how you are going to get to your goal step by step. For every problem you think of that might cause a bump in your progress write down how you can solve and get past that problem then move on to the next.

When you have a plan written down it is easier to succeed this way. Now that you have a plan in place and documented to help you along your way you might want to tell some family and friends of your resolution and explain how you plan on succeeding and ask if they can be supportive to better ensure you do in fact have success.

Next thing to do is decide on the date you are starting your resolution whether it is January 1ST or another day not to long afterwards. Make sure that once you start you monitor your progress and if you feel yourself falling behind in your goal then do something to pick up the pace and get back on track.

Having a New Year’s resolution is not  a competition with anyone it is about self improvement. So take your time and succeed. Every day you wake up try repeating aloud some self affirmations that will help you achieve your success.

Remember one last thing, if you don’t happen to get to your goal in the time you thought you would don’t give up just keep going. Even if it takes you twice as long wouldn’t it feel so much better if you took twice as long to succeed than quitting and never succeeding? Good Luck.

One last thought about resolutions

Whether it is the beiginning of a new year of the middle of summer it is never a bad time to start setting goals and start those resolutions.

If you aren't able to stick to your goals in January then maybe another time of the year will work better for you. Just remember to never quit trying to succeed.

Never give up and stay focused on your goal and you will eventually get to where you see yourself being whether it is losing weight, quitting smoking, learning another language, being a kinder person or whatever you chose just don't give up.
